Automatic voltage release: When the line encounters lightning strikes or other reasons that cause abnormal high voltage on the ground wire, this protective gap will be broken down and discharged, causing the ground wire to instantly conduct with the tower, forming an effective grounding path.

Playing a protective role: By quickly introducing huge lightning currents or fault currents into the ground, the safety of line equipment and substations can be protected, avoiding damage to insulators themselves due to overvoltage.
